While ideally, all construction employers should have comprehensive construction safety programs developed and implemented in all of their workplaces, but realistically, that is not always true. Construction Safety Professionals can find themselves in a number of situations where they are called upon to explain and justify an employer's need to implement a construction safety program. In some situations, a Construction Safety Professional may be newly hired with a construction employer who already has a construction safety program, but the program is inadequate and needs much improvement. In other situations, a Construction Safety Professional may be hired as an outside consultant by a construction employer, who does not have a construction safety program, to help them understand why they need one. Whatever the case may be, Construction Safety Professionals need to be familiar with how to develop and present a business case to an employer to justify the need for a comprehensive construction safety program.
For your course project, you will be developing a business case for the fictional construction employer, Nearlane Construction Company, to implement a comprehensive construction safety program. A business case details the justification for initiating a program, project or task. It provides the information that is needed for those who can authorize and provide funding for the program, project or task to make a decision on whether to authorize and provide funding for the program, project or task.
